Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital and most cosmopolitan city, is located at an altitude of 1400m above sea level. Similarly, you can enroll with dozens of ethnic groups and their own culture. From ancient times, Kathmandu has been the hometown of the Newari people, who perform many cultural and festival events in the city.

Kathmandu is famous and regarded as a living museum. Different temples, monasteries, churches, and cultural heritage sites are mainly visited during the tours while you are in Kathmandu.

Best time for Kathmandu Pokhara and Chitwan Tour

Nepal is a small country, but rich in culture and customs and distinctive seasons with uniqueness. Many people from worldwide travel to Nepal during the best traveling seasons. We are describing all the traveling seasons below. According to the Nepali calendar, Nepal faces one season every two months. Nepal experiences Spring, Autumn, winter, early summer, and Monsoon.

  • Basanta Ritu (spring)
  • Grishma Ritu (Early Summer)
  • Barkha Ritu (Summer Monsoon season)
  • Sharad Ritu (Early Autumn)
  • Hemanta Ritu (late Autumn)
  • Shishir Ritu (winter)

We suggest you travel to Nepal in Spring, early summer, and late Autumn. As in those seasons, the weather is pleasant and calm and provides favorable touring conditions. Also, views are excellent during Spring, early summer, and late Autumn. The weather is very clear from morning to Evening during the seasons.

But we don’t recommend it during the monsoon season or winter as the monsoon season comes with heavy rainfall, making it difficult to tour. The rainfall occurs continuously, making the visibility bad and roads slippery. Also, leeches in the Chitwan National Park and remote areas are all over the land.

Furthermore, winter comes with colder days. The temperature is below zero degrees in winter, so tour activities might be challenging for you during winter. Moreover, the days are shorter in winter, so you’ll get less time for your tour. However, the winter season could be ideal if you enjoy cold temperatures.

The major historical and cultural sites

The major historical and cultural sites included during Kathmandu tours are the visit to Pashupatinath temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Naryanhiti Museum, and Swayambhunath Stupa within a day.

We recommend Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, and overnight at Nagarkot for the best viewpoint of the Himalayas. It is 2100 Meters above sea level.

After exploring Nagarkot, you may Travel to Pokhara. Pokhara is the second-largest touristic city in Nepal and lies in the western part of Nepal. It is the laying lap of the Annapurna Himalayan range, even though it is 900 meters from Sea level.

Pokhara is the favorite place for Paragliding and ultra-light near the Himalayas. The tours towards Pokhara give you a beautiful view of the Annapurna Himalayan ranges, the Dhaulagiri Himalayan range, and the fantastic shadow of Mount Machhapuchhre and Annapurna on the Phewa Lake.

The significant places to visit are several different lakes and temples such as Rupa Lake, Begnas Lake, Tal Barahai Temple, David’s Fall, Mahendra Cave, Bindabasini Temple, and the famous world peace stupa, including the mountain museum.

We can observe the mesmerizing sunrise view of the snow-capped mountain peaks from the Sarangkot viewpoint.

The Chitwan National Park tour is into the vast Jungle. Chitwan is situated on the southwestern side of Nepal, covering an area of 2,238 square kilometers. It is 70 meters from sea level.

The tour is primarily famous for the National Park, which offers dense habitats, wildlife, and natural beauties. You can do a jungle safari by jeep or an elephant safari inside the forests and explore many wild animals, such as the Royal Bengal tiger, spotted deer, one-horned Rhinoceros, wild elephant, marsh crocodile, wild boar, sloth bear, and several species of deer, including barking deer.

1) At the Kathmandu tour

You can go sightseeing around significant historical and cultural places such as Pashupatinath Temple, Swyabhunath Stupa, and Boudhanath Stupa. If you have more spare time, you can extend your exploration towards Patan Krishna Temple,  Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and drive to Nagarkot overnight on the same day.

Kathmandu Sightseeing

On your Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan tours, we first included the tour to Kathmandu. As you land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, it will be easy first to tour the area you are staying in. On the Kathmandu sightseeing day, you’ll finish your breakfast and get ready at your hotel, and we’ll pick you up from there. The day is about visiting Kathmandu’s prominent sites, which are all World UNESCO heritage sites.

Pashupatinath Temple

As per our itinerary, you’ll visit Pashupatinath temple first. The temple has a covered area of 246 hectares (2.5 km square) with 518 mini-temples. The temple is the most sacred holy site, dedicated to lord Shiva. Mahashivaratri and Teej are the major festivals celebrated in Pashupatinath temple. If you get on the occasion, you’ll see how Hindu people worship god and how dedicated they are towards devotion.

Most Nepalese and Indians come to seek blessings at the Pashupatinath temple. Besides devotes and pilgrimage, the temple is a significant tourist destination. You’ll get to see the cremation ceremonies of Hindus on the Pashupatinath visit that takes place on the bank of the Bagmati river. You’ll get to visit each part and the temple in the area, but if you are non-Hindu, you won’t be allowed to get inside the main temple of Pashupatinath. Besides the main temple, you can visit other major temples, including Guhyeshwari and Gorakhnath Temple.

Boudhanath Stupa

Boudhanath, located 11km northeast of Kathmandu, is another UNESCO heritage site you’ll visit after Pashupatinath temple. Boudhanath has always been a favorite destination for tourists visiting Kathmandu. The Stupa is a prominent site for Buddhist devotees. The temple provides peace to Buddhist people, and the environment calms visitors. The Stupa is the largest Stupa with a beautifully made mandala design. The design of the Boudhanath stupa will attract you and make your eyes pleasant while seeing.

The entire structure of the Stupa has its meaning. The top point of the Stupa symbolizes the King of Mountains, Mt. Sumeru; below the pinnacle is the umbrella, representing the preserver of the three jewels, including Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. You will see the lotus down the umbrella, symbolizing benevolence and morality. Below the lotus, there is a thirteenth tread indicating enlightenment. The most notable feature of the structure is the two eyes of Buddha gazing from the four edges, which is symbolic of the eyes seeing everywhere. The nose is a sign of Nirvana; the Harmika signifies the eight noble paths of Buddha. Furthermore, the dome marks the Universe, and the mandala is the residence of lord Buddha.

The activities you can get involved in during the visit to Boudhanath Stupa involve Walking clockwise around the Stupa (Kora ) while spinning the prayer wheels, taking photos, buying handicrafts, having a delicious meal on the rooftop while enjoying the view of the Stupa, visiting surrounding monasteries and taking blessing from the monks, eating local’s foods and getting involved in Buddhism meditation practice.

Swayambhunath Stupa

After visiting Pashupatinath and Boudhanath, you’ll conclude your day with a visit to Swayambhunath stupa. Located 3km west of Kathmandu, Swaymbhunath is the sacred Buddhist Stupa at the top of the hill. King Mandev constructed the Stupa in 460 A.D. The Stupa has been a UNESCO Heritage Site since 1979. The Swambhunath stupa is a top tourist attraction and a prominent Buddhist site in Kathmandu. On the base of Swayambhunath, three substantial golden statues of Shakyamuni Buddha, Chenrezig, and Guru Rinpoche will welcome you on your arrival.

The Stupa is often known as Monkey Stupa due to the many Monkey’s residents on the premises. While visiting Stupa’s complex, you can see various Buddhist shrines, monuments, and Hindu temples, some of which have existed since the time of Lichhavi. You must climb over 365 steps to reach the Stupa’s top. Due to its location at the hilltop, the Stupa provides a 360-degree view of the entire Kathmandu valley.

Like Boudhanath, you can circumulate the Swayambhunath Stupa by spinning the prayer wheels. You’ll find the common structure of Swayambhunath, as you saw on Boudhanath. Gunla, Buddha Jayanti, and Lhosar are the major festivals celebrated in Swayambhunath. During the visit to Swayambhunath, you can visit the temples and shrines, including Harati Devi temple, Shantipur temple, Agnipur Shrine, Vayupur Shrine, Pratapur and Anantapur temples, and Vasundhara temple. Our guide will take you to each part and provide all the necessary details about the areas.

Note: If you have more time to explore, you can tour Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Nagarkot on the second sightseeing day in Kathmandu.
