Best Season
Spring Season (March-May)
Spring is the best season to travel in the Everest region. Due to clear skies, helicopter tours on Everest are comfortable this season. It is easy to handle a helicopter because of the clear visibility of the Himalayas during this season.
This season, temperatures range from +15°C to -5 °C, making it an excellent climate for helicopter operations. Sometimes there may be a light rain, but the atmosphere remains clear and vibrant.
Autumn Season (September-November)
On Everest, the prime season for helicopter tours is autumn. This season offers clear views of the surrounding environment; the sky is crisp and clear, and the weather is stable. This season is popular not only for helicopter tours but also for trekking.
During this season, temperatures range from +10°C to +20°C, ideal for helicopter operations in the Himalayan region. After the monsoon, the weather clears and becomes crisp, offering clear panoramic views of Everest and the surrounding peaks.
Summer Season (June-August)
Known as the Monsoon season, the lower region below 3,000 m sees heavy rainfall; the Everest region above 3,000 m experiences less rain due to global warming; therefore, helicopter tours are possible.
A helicopter tour can be conducted in good weather with appropriate safety measures in place. Air temperature will range from +20 °C to +25 °C, and tourists will be able to see everything clearly through the clear windows. Check the weather carefully before flying the helicopter.
Winter Season (December-February)
The winter season brings cold temperatures and challenging conditions in high-altitude regions. The average temperature during this season ranges from -6°C to -25°C in the Everest region. Powerful western winds cause heavy fog and snowfall, reducing visibility and making flights more difficult.
A helicopter tour is possible on sunny days, with appropriate safety measures in place. And, before flying, check the weather in detail.
Why Should We Have Multiple Landings for the Everest Mountain Flight?
The Everest mountain flight is an incomparable experience, and the numerous landings add significant value to the journey for several reasons. Starting at Kathmandu Airport, we fly to Lukla for a helicopter refueling stop.
We next land in Pheriche, at an altitude of 4,200 meters. The purpose of this stop is not only for sightseeing but also for altitude considerations, as the Nepalese government does not allow carrying more than 450 kg above 5,000 meters. We will operate two flights from Pheriche.
One highlight of the flight is landing at Kalapathar, where you can take in some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth, with panoramic views of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks.
After taking in the majestic views, we head to the Luxury Hotel in Syangboche at 3,800 meters for a pleasant breakfast. The 20-minute stop provides time for a meal amid beautiful scenery and a restful break.
Finally, after breakfast, we'll return to Lukla for another refueling stop before heading back to Kathmandu Airport.
Overall, the Everest Mountain helicopter flight includes five landings, each serving a different purpose and enriching your experience. It also ensures safety and regulatory compliance, while offering opportunities to see the majestic beauty of the Himalayas.

Know Before You Go
Permits
Although a helicopter tour to Everest is a sweet, short adventure with no long-day trekking, it still requires permits and some paperwork. To enter Sagarmatha National Park and the Khumbu Rural Municipality, you need to have permits.
Sagarmatha National Park Permit
A permit for Sagarmatha National Park is compulsory for anyone visiting the Everest region. Without a permit, you cannot explore this region, whether you explore via helicopter or trek.
Sagarmatha National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site home to diverse wildlife, pristine glaciers, and the world's highest peaks.
Khumbu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit
You must have an entrance permit for the Khumbu Rural Municipality. The Nepalese government introduced its new license for Nepali tourists, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Entrance Permit. It is used to fund local development, tourism infrastructure, and environmental preservation in the Khumbu area.
Whether you trek in the region or take a helicopter tour, you must have this permit to explore the beauty of the Everest region.
Permit Handling
Most reputable tour operators include these permits in their helicopter tour packages. The operator will handle all the paperwork and fees on your behalf before the flight, so you don't need to arrange them independently.
Cost of Permits
-
Cost of Permits for SAARC Nations: Nationals of any SAARC country pay 1500 Nepali Rupees for the Sagarmatha National Park Permit and Nepali 3000 for local permits
- Other than the SAARC counter, the cover should be US$35 and 30 for each permit.
Documents Needed for Everest Base Camp Heli Tour
While planning a breathtaking helicopter tour to the Everest Base Camp, there are some vital documents required; here is the list:
-
A valid passport is required. It must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended date of exit from Nepal.
-
You will need to have a visa to enter Nepal. You can obtain a visa upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport or in advance from a Nepalese embassy or consulate.
-
Travel insurance is highly recommended. Ensure that it covers helicopter flights, high-altitude activities, and emergency evacuation.
-
You may be required to complete a health declaration form if you have any pre-existing conditions.
-
Keep a printed or digital copy of your tour operator's booking confirmation, which includes your flight details and itinerary.
-
Maintain a list of emergency contacts; include your tour operator and any important personal contacts.
-
For security purposes, carry a photocopy of your passport and any other identification documents.
Is it Safe to tour in EBC by Helicopter?
Taking the Everest base camp helicopter tour is an absolute once-in-a-lifetime experience. Of course, the stunning views and the sheer thrill are the most common advantages, but passenger safety remains the top priority throughout the entire process.
The flying machines we use are piloted by highly skilled, trained personnel who specialize in mountain flying. Just before we take off, you will receive a detailed briefing on all safety aspects to keep you informed and, hence, more relaxed during the flight.
For your safety, we have oxygen cylinders on board for quick assistance if needed. Moreover, we provide headphones to block out some helicopter noise so you can admire the beautiful landscape in peace.
Your safety and comfort are paramount as you embark on this unforgettable journey to one of the most magnificent places on Earth!
Sharing vs. Private Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour
Sharing Helicopter Tour
On this wonderful adventure to Everest Base Camp, we fly in an AS350 B3 helicopter that seats up to 5 passengers. This air transport performs very well at high altitudes, making it the best choice for exploring the Everest region.
A full group of five is not a requirement to join this adventure. If your company is small and has 1, 2, 3, or 4 people, we will set up a shared trip for you. We operate several helicopter flights during the peak season, providing flexibility in scheduling.
One of the main advantages of a shared trip is the lower price. As passenger counts increase, the per-person price decreases, making it a more cost-effective option.
However, if you prefer to fly exclusively with your own group and have fewer than five people, the cost will be higher to cover the entire helicopter rental. This choice offers a more intimate experience, so it's essential to weigh your options based on your preferences and budget.
Things to Carry on the Helicopter Tour in the Everest
You do not need to carry many items on your helicopter tour. Here is the list of things:
-
Warm jackets
-
Warm or woolen hats
-
Hand gloves
-
Warm sports shoes
-
Warm trousers, shirts, and other clothes
-
Camera
-
Wollen hat
-
Sunglasses
-
Sunscreen
