Best Trekking seasons from Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trekking
The weather cycle in Nepal has been classified into four different seasons: autumn (September–November), spring (March-May), summer (June–August), and winter (December–February). The overall climatic context is mildly temperate, while occasional rain showers occur across the boundary.
Many consider the autumn and spring months the best period for Jiri to go on Everest Trekking. The weather from September to November and March to May is clear, with undisturbed sightings of the Himalayan mountains.
High Himalayan temperatures range from 19.5°C (upper limit) to -14°C (lower limit) throughout the autumn; in the spring months, temperatures range from 24°C (UL) to -13°C (LL). This moderate temperature variation makes these months the best time for Jiri to embark on the Everest Journey.
Distance
The one-way distance from Jiri to the base of Everest is a total of 184.5 kilometers. The first stretch of the trek is smooth, sailing through quaint villages and passing through tropical, lush forests. You will pierce through several terraced farms, rice fields, and deep forests until Phakding.
Views along the trail
EBC Trek from Jiri is well endowed with a delightful gaze of gigantic massifs, typical Nepali life, rural villages, varied flora and fauna, endangered species, centuries-old monuments and relics, and numerous other exciting factors.
There are three significant passes you will encounter in the first stretch (Jiri to Lukla) of the trek: Deurali Pass (2705m), Lamjura-La Pass (3530m), and Thaksindo-La Pass (3071m).
Apart from these, Jiri is a quaint settlement in a peaceful valley with lush hills surrounding the area. If you would like, you can wander into local agricultural farms while in Jiri.
As you pass across Lukla, the massive Himalayan belt of the Everest region is visible. Astounding views of Mount Everest (8,848m/29,029ft), Lhotse (8,516m/27,940ft), Nuptse (7,861m/25,791ft), Ama Dablam (6,812m/22,349ft), Thamserku (6,623m/21,729ft), Kangtega (6,782m/22,251ft), Kusum Kanguru (6,367m/20,889ft), and Cho Oyu (8,188m/26,864ft).
The Everest region is also rich in cultural diversity, with people following varied religious beliefs as they ascend. Tengboche Monastery, Khumjung Monastery, Pangboche Monastery, and Thame Monastery are the Everest region’s ancient and most sacred points, with their mythological history and mass following.

Jiri to Lukla Trekking Route
Your customary trek to Everest starts at Lukla and follows along the Sherpa villages in high, elevated landscapes towards EBC.
Jiri to Everest Trekking differs from others as it starts from the historically significant place, Jiri, and follows towards Lukla, replacing the Kathmandu-Lukla flight.
The Jiri-Lukla trek stretch passes through small hamlets inhabited mainly by Tamang, Jerel, Rai, Brahmin, and Chhetris. During this stretch, you can immerse yourself in typical Hindu and Nepalese Buddhist practices.
Geographically, the Jiri-Lukla stretch is full of high hills densely covered with tropical forests cut by the Himalayan region.
During this route, we shall ascend past the high point of this stretch at Lamjura-La Pass (3530m), which bestows jaw-dropping scenery of lowered valleys and high rocky mountains above. We then follow the tiny hamlets of Changma, Kinja, Junbesi, Takshindo, and Kharikhola to finally set foot on Lukla.
Lukla to Base Camp Route and Scenery
The stretch from Lukla to Everest Base Camp entails the popular trail traversing the Khumbu region’s miniature Sherpa helmets. It is a worthwhile trip because it blends the region’s unique culture, geography, people, lifestyle, religion, and various festivals into one single journey.
The route from Lukla towards EBC first takes on the river basin of the Dudh Koshi River, following it through small settlements: Phakding and Monjo to reach Namche Bazaar. As you pass through Monjo, you enter Sagarmatha National Park, one of the Everest region’s precious gems.
Namche Bazaar is the commercial hub of the Everest area. It is a dense village settled in a semi-circular pattern along the ridge base of the hill, which overlooks Mt. Thamserkhu.
The trail ascends uphill from Namche toward the famous Tengboche village, home to the largest monastery in the Sagarmatha region. Throughout the journey, you can see the amazing Everest panorama, including other mountains like Mt.Amadablam, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Kagntenga.
Ahead of Tengboche lies an arid landscape that takes you to the sparsely settled villages of Dingboche, Pheriche, and Gorakshep until you reach the base of Everest. Apart from the trek to the bottom of Everest, you can take a de route from the trail’s midpoint, Pangboche, and head for Ama Dablam Base Camp, adding one more day to your itinerary.

Accommodation
The accommodation all along the trek from Jiri to Everest Base Camp is in a teahouse. Standard tourist hotels are available in Jiri, but you will be accommodated in teahouses in the other sections of the trail.
Teahouses are wooden homes similar to mountain lodges in the Alps. The lower section of the trek from Jiri to Lukla provides typical Nepalese dwellings made of clay, wood, stones, zinc, or a tin roof designed in vernacular architecture.
All across the trekking trail, you will have basic lodging amenities provided by such teahouses. There are at least twin beds offered in every room of such houses.
Rooms with attached bathrooms are available in most teahouses but are subject to availability. A power outlet is provided in teahouses to charge your electronic devices, and hot showers are provided but cost extra.

Every lodge has a menu of different types of food; there are wide varieties of foods available, and even though they are tiny guest houses, they should be fresh.
