Know Before You Go

Best Season for Trek

Trekking enthusiasts around the world prefer two seasons for travel in Nepal: Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November). These two seasons are the busiest for trekking and travel in most places in Nepal.

Spring (March-May)

Trekking in the Mardi Himal during the spring season is the best choice any traveller can make. Spring is a popular season for trekking in the Annapurna region, thanks to its warm and comfortable weather. Daytime temperatures are warm and mild, ranging from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F) at lower elevations. As you trek higher, it can be cooler, especially at night.

During this season, the visibility is clear and crisp. You can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas from a distance on clear days. The trails and hills are transformed into a colourful palette by the rhododendron bloom and other wildflowers, creating a vibrant landscape that enhances the trekking experience.

The trails are less crowded than in the autumn. This allows you to experience the beauty of nature up close.

Autumn (September-November)

Autumn season is the most loved season for trekking in Nepal. Most trekkers around the world prefer this season for trekking in the Annapurna region. This season offers stable weather and mild temperatures. Daytime temperatures typically range from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F) at lower elevations.

This season offers crystal-clear visibility of the Himalayas and the surrounding Hills. After the monsoon season, the trails are lush and green, and the skies are usually clear, providing stunning scenery. This season offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna mountain range, making it a favourite among photographers and nature lovers.

This season attracts many trekkers, especially during the Dashain and Tihar festivals, leading to busier trails and teahouses.

Winter (December-February)

Trekking in the winter season is possible but challenging due to cold temperatures. In high-altitude regions, particularly above 3,000 meters, most paths are covered by snow, making them difficult to traverse. However, lower-altitude treks may still be manageable.

Daytime temperatures can drop significantly, and nights can be extremely cold. This season has fewer trekkers, resulting in a more peaceful experience, but it requires careful planning and preparation for cold weather.

Monsoon (June-August)

The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall, making trekking conditions challenging. Trails can become muddy and slippery, and visibility may be poor due to clouds and rain. While some adventurous trekkers may choose to trek during this time, it is generally not recommended for families or those seeking a more comfortable experience.

Why Is the Mardi Himal Trek Famous?

The Mardi Himal Trek is a short yet rewarding trekking destination. Anyone who has very short holidays and wants to trek in the Annapurna region to witness the stunning views of the Himalayas, including Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare (Fishtail), and green hills, can go for a trek to Mardi Himal.
